Legal Things
Boring legal stuff I’m obligated to put on a website. Even if it’s just for funsies.
Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Your privacy matters to me. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit Courtney's Commonplace (courtneyscommonplace.com), how it's used, and what your options are.
What Information Is Collected
Automatically collected data. Like most websites, this site collects basic analytics data when you visit — things like which pages were viewed, how long you stayed, what device or browser you used, and your approximate location (country/region level). This is handled through Squarespace's built-in analytics and helps me understand what content is useful to readers.
Information you provide. If you leave a comment, fill out a contact form, or subscribe to email updates, I collect the information you submit (like your name and email address). I'll only use that to respond to you or send you content you asked for — nothing else.
Cookies. Squarespace uses cookies to keep the site running properly and to collect analytics data. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may not work as expected if you do.
What I Don't Do
I don't sell your data. Ever.
I don't run ads, so there's no ad-tracking infrastructure on this site.
I don't use your information to build profiles or target you with marketing.
Third Parties
This site is hosted on Squarespace, which has its own privacy policy you can read at squarespace.com. If I link to or embed content from other platforms (like YouTube or Instagram), those platforms may collect data according to their own policies — I don't control that.
If I ever use affiliate links in a post, I'll always disclose that clearly. Clicking an affiliate link may allow the retailer to know you came from this site.
Your Rights
You can request to see, correct, or delete any personal information you've provided to me by reaching out via the contact form. If you're in the EU or California, you have additional data rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively — just get in touch and I'll help sort it out.
Changes to This Policy
If I make meaningful changes to this policy, I'll update the date at the top. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
Terms of Use
Last updated: March 2026
By using courtneyscommonplace.com, you agree to these terms. They're pretty straightforward.
The Content
Everything on this site — writing, photos, graphics, and other original content — belongs to me, Courtney, unless otherwise noted. You're welcome to share links to posts and quote small excerpts (with credit and a link back), but please don't reproduce full posts or use my photos without permission. If you'd like to collaborate or republish something, just ask.
Accuracy and Opinions
I do my best to share accurate, well-researched information, but I'm a blogger, not a licensed professional. Nothing on this site should be taken as medical, legal, financial, or nutritional advice. When I review products, share recipes, or recommend brands, those are my genuine personal opinions — but your experience may differ.
Affiliate links and any sponsored content will always be clearly disclosed. My recommendations are my own and are not influenced by compensation.
Your Conduct
Please don't use this site for anything unlawful or harmful, and don't attempt to interfere with the site's functionality. Comments and contact form submissions should be respectful — I reserve the right to remove content that is hateful, spam, or otherwise inappropriate.
External Links
Posts on this site may link to other websites. I try to link to reputable sources, but I'm not responsible for the content or practices of external sites once you leave courtneyscommonplace.com.
Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, I'm not liable for any damages arising from your use of this site or reliance on its content. The site is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin.
Questions
If something here is confusing or you have a question, feel free to reach out through the contact form.
Accessibility Statement
Last updated: March 2026
I want Courtney's Commonplace to be readable and usable by everyone, regardless of ability or how you're accessing it.
My Commitment
I'm committed to making this site as accessible as possible. That means:
Using clear, readable fonts and sufficient color contrast
Writing descriptive alt text for images
Making sure the site is navigable by keyboard
Structuring content with proper headings so screen readers can follow along
This site is built on Squarespace, and I rely on their platform to meet baseline accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the goal). I do my part on the content side and Squarespace handles the underlying infrastructure.
Known Limitations
I'm a one-person blog, and accessibility is something I'm always learning and improving. Some older posts may not fully meet current standards, and I'm working through them over time. Embedded third-party content (like videos or social posts) may have limitations outside my control.
Feedback
If you encounter a barrier on this site — a page that doesn't load correctly with a screen reader, an image missing alt text, or anything else that makes the content harder to access — please let me know through the contact form. I take this seriously and will do my best to address it promptly.
